Talkington High School Cheer Portraits

This photo was from the second time I ever photographed these girls. The first time, we went to Cook’s Garage, a place outside of Lubbock full of music, drinks, and fun. The shoot at Cook’s was my biggest group I had ever photographed. Being just outside of my comfort zone due to being surrounded by high school cheerleaders and their moms following me around, I believe it was a very successful shoot. My wife, who is usually my assistant, was not able to make it so I hired my brother and sister in-law to take her place. My sister in-law was very involved in cheer when she was a in high school and let me just tell you, her experience helped me out a lot. My brother in-law was more of my lighting guy and he did a great job positioning my flashes for me. After the big group photos at Cook’s Garage. We went home and I was contacted by Talkington again to do the cheer portraits so they could have individual posters of the cheer squad. This is where the photo above came from. They were hosting a ‘Meet the Teacher’ night at the school and all of the cheerleaders were dressed up ready for their photos. I met all of them at the school and we took individual portraits very quickly and they turned out amazing! It’s funny to me because sometimes the best photoshoots are the ones that are short. I lined up all the girls and told them the three shots I had in mind and they understood and followed directions very well. I love trying new things as I am still finding a perfect niche for myself. I won’t turn down anything unless I try it once.
